The CNC Machining industry has been suffering for many years. The lack of knowledge encompassing machining throughout schools has led to a severe lack of students taking up apprenticeships. Without the constant influx of apprentices, companies have been struggling to employ skilled machinists. This isn’t an issue that will resolve by itself. For businesses to grow and develop they need to invest in their future. We need companies to come together to grow the trade nationwide. Without showing students the possibilities available and driving manufacturing within New Zealand, we will continue to struggle when it comes to employing staff resulting in the country falling behind on the world stage.
